Abstract
The article is focused on some of Atanas Dalchev’s “fragments” (short prosaic pieces –
aphorisms, thoughts and impressions) which he published in time of ideological control – 1945 –
1946. The main point of the study is to present the “fragments” not as general philosophical
reflections on life and literature but as publications that are tightly connected with their cultural-
historical time, as polemical texts that eventually present silence as the only choice of freedom in
times of censorship and ideological manipulation.
Keywords: Atanas Dalchev, fragments, silence, polemics, cultural-historical reflection
